Expert Warns China Showing Signs of Regime Collapse Under Xi Jinping

As Trump pressures Beijing, Xi’s erratic behavior reveals deep cracks within the communist regime.

There’s growing concern among top foreign policy experts that something is deeply wrong inside China’s communist leadership. Gordon Chang, a senior fellow at the Gatestone Institute and a longtime China analyst, sounded the alarm Monday, warning that recent "perplexing" behavior out of Beijing is classic "end-of-regime conduct."

At a time when China desperately needs global partners to cushion the devastating impact of U.S. tariffs, Xi Jinping’s regime is doing the exact opposite antagonizing not just Taiwan and the Philippines, but also key nations like South Korea and Australia. Chang noted that this self-sabotaging behavior is a hallmark of a leadership circling the drain.

Chang outlined several alarming developments:

  • Despite crippling 145% U.S. tariffs on Chinese goods, Beijing refuses to engage meaningfully with the Trump administration, publicly denying ongoing negotiations.

  • Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi bizarrely claimed China supports “multilateralism” while lashing out against America’s tariffs as "extreme egoism."

  • Behind closed doors, China is quietly allowing tariff exemptions for crucial imports like semiconductors, aviation products, industrial chemicals, and medical devices an unacknowledged admission of weakness.

This fragile moment comes as President Donald Trump continues to turn up the pressure. On Friday, Trump revealed he has spoken to Xi "many times" and hinted that major developments could be coming soon. Unlike the Biden administration’s naive pandering to Beijing, Trump’s tough stance has exposed the cracks in the Chinese Communist Party’s foundation.

It’s no wonder China’s behavior appears increasingly erratic:

  • Xi Jinping's claim that China has "surpassed the U.S." backfires every time Beijing bends under tariff pressure, forcing the regime to hide concessions rather than admit defeat.

  • China's export economy is collapsing, with recent data showing a 14.5% year-over-year plunge in exports to the U.S., according to China's own Ministry of Commerce.

  • Foreign investment in China has plummeted, with new investments falling by over 26% compared to last year.

Chang emphasized that the communist regime’s inflexibility is now its greatest vulnerability. Xi’s political system, configured to crush dissent and reject compromise, cannot admit mistakes even as the Chinese economy teeters on the edge of disaster.

Thanks to President Trump’s relentless pressure, we are witnessing a historic moment: the exposure of the Chinese Communist Party’s inner weakness. If Beijing continues down this path, it won’t just be an economic setback it could be the beginning of the end for the world's most dangerous authoritarian regime.
