Prince Harry & Meghan Markle’s $29M Mansion at Risk Amid California Fire
Elite Montecito residents face evacuations as power outages spread across Southern California.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may be forced to evacuate their $29 million Montecito estate as California wildfires continue to wreak havoc across the region. With power companies considering widespread outages to prevent further disaster, the celebrity enclave is once again at the mercy of the state’s ongoing crisis.
Southern California Edison (SCE) is weighing a "Public Safety Power Shutoff" in Santa Barbara County due to the high fire risk. The closest fire, currently burning in Malibu about 70 miles away has officials on edge as strong winds threaten to spread the flames into drier areas. Emergency responders have already reported major issues, including dry hydrants rendering firefighting efforts nearly impossible.
Over 70,000 SCE customers were left without power as of Wednesday morning, with at least 35,000 outages in Los Angeles County alone.
Tens of thousands of residents have been ordered to evacuate, including high-profile figures like Ben Affleck and James Woods.
Wind gusts exceeding 100 mph have accelerated the spread of fires, leaving some residents stranded in gridlocked traffic as they attempt to flee.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex purchased their sprawling 18,000-square-foot home in 2020 for $14.65 million, and its value has since skyrocketed to $29 million. However, Montecito’s luxury real estate market has a glaring downside its constant vulnerability to wildfires. The area has faced multiple evacuation orders in recent years, with devastating mudslides following past blazes, adding another layer of danger to the community.
SCE has already scheduled an additional 779 outages affecting up to 42,000 more customers as a precaution to prevent electrical sparks from igniting new fires. Wealthy enclaves like Montecito, home to figures such as Oprah Winfrey and, until recently, Ellen DeGeneres, have not been spared from the power crisis.
The situation highlights the glaring failures of California’s leadership in managing its wildfire problem. With billions poured into climate initiatives, the state still struggles to maintain basic infrastructure that could prevent such disasters. Meanwhile, as politicians push green energy policies, residents are left dealing with blackouts, crumbling utility services, and the ever-present risk of losing their homes.
At least 30,000 people remain under evacuation orders, with chaotic road conditions forcing some to abandon their vehicles in desperation. Despite the ongoing crisis, there has been no comment from Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's representatives.
California's disastrous wildfire seasons continue to expose the consequences of mismanagement. Until state officials prioritize real solutions over virtue signaling, its residents whether celebrity elites or everyday Californians will remain at risk.
