Bondi Blasts Durbin for Blocking Trump’s Effort to Stop Chicago Violence
In a fiery exchange, Attorney General Pam Bondi shames Illinois Democrats for prioritizing politics over protecting their own citizens.

Attorney General Pam Bondi unloaded on Senator Dick Durbin during a high-stakes hearing Tuesday morning, exposing the hypocrisy of Democrats who continue to oppose President Trump’s plan to send National Guard troops to Chicago amid a wave of lawlessness.
Durbin, the senior senator from Illinois, questioned the Trump administration’s decision to deploy Texas National Guard troops to his state, implying that such a move was unnecessary even as violent anti-ICE riots have erupted across Chicago and federal agents have come under attack.
“What’s the rationale for that?” Durbin asked smugly.
Bondi didn’t hesitate to respond.
“Chairman, as you shut down the government you voted to shut down the government and you’re sitting here, our law enforcement officers aren’t being paid. They’re out there working to protect you,” she said. “I wish you loved Chicago as much as you hate President Trump.”
The exchange got hotter as Bondi outlined the brutal reality on the streets of Chicago, which Democrats like Durbin refuse to acknowledge.
571 homicides were recorded in Chicago last year a murder rate five times higher than New York City’s.
Federal ICE agents were ambushed by vehicles just last weekend, with attackers doxxing agents online and encouraging gang violence.
Local police were ordered to stand down as the assault unfolded.
Yet Durbin and other Democrats remain more concerned about optics than outcomes.
“If you’re not going to protect your citizens, President Trump will,” Bondi declared, making it clear that this is about public safety, not politics.
She also directly addressed Governor JB Pritzker and Mayor Brandon Johnson, who have tried to obstruct federal aid by creating so-called “ICE-free zones” and suing the administration to block troop deployment.
“You’re saying that we’re coming into your state and your city?” Bondi asked rhetorically.
“We’re there to help make America safe and Illinois safe whether or not you want to.”
This wasn’t just a heated exchange it was a damning indictment of Democrat leadership in Illinois, where violent crime has skyrocketed, federal agents are under siege, and city officials are more focused on political grandstanding than basic law enforcement.
While Durbin postures, Trump is acting sending 200 National Guard troops from Texas to stabilize the situation and protect federal personnel. The move comes after a federal judge refused to block the deployment, handing Democrats yet another defeat in court.
Bondi’s mic-drop moment summed it up best. “If you were serious about protecting your people, you would be asking this administration for help.”
The message from Trump’s DOJ is loud and clear: federal law will be enforced, and American cities will not be abandoned to political games and progressive failures.
