Bob Casey Concedes Pennsylvania Senate Race to Dave McCormick

Republican victory in Pennsylvania seals GOP’s Senate majority.

After two weeks of contesting the results, Sen. Bob Casey (D-PA) has officially conceded the Pennsylvania Senate race to Republican Dave McCormick. McCormick secured the win by a narrow margin of just over 16,000 votes, according to the latest figures from the Associated Press. The race was within the state’s 0.5% threshold for an automatic recount, but Casey opted to concede as the first count of ballots was completed.

“I just called Dave McCormick to congratulate him on his election to represent Pennsylvania in the United States Senate,” Casey said in a statement Thursday evening. “As the first count of ballots is completed, Pennsylvanians can move forward with the knowledge that their voices were heard, whether their vote was the first to be counted or the last.”

Casey acknowledged the razor-thin nature of the contest, describing it as one of the closest in Pennsylvania’s history, with a margin of victory of less than a quarter of a percentage point. The election saw:

  • Unprecedented voter turnout across Pennsylvania’s urban and rural counties.

  • Weeks of legal scrutiny over ballots to ensure accuracy and eligibility.

  • A major shift in momentum for Republicans, fueled by growing dissatisfaction with the Biden administration’s policies.

McCormick’s win was part of a broader wave of Republican victories, with the GOP flipping several key Senate seats to secure a 53-47 majority in the upper chamber for the 119th Congress.

Senator-elect Dave McCormick expressed gratitude to Casey for his decades of service, as well as his own commitment to representing all Pennsylvanians.

“Dina and I want to extend our sincere gratitude to Senator Casey, Terese, and their family for their decades of service, hard work, and personal sacrifice,” McCormick said. “I am so honored to represent every single citizen in Pennsylvania in the United States Senate and will fight for you every day. Thank you!”

McCormick’s victory is a key win for Republicans, marking a shift in Pennsylvania, a state that has often been seen as a battleground in national politics. His campaign focused on economic revitalization, securing the border, and reversing the policies of the Biden administration, which resonated with voters across the commonwealth.

As the GOP prepares to take control of the Senate, McCormick’s victory stands as a clear message: Pennsylvanians are ready for a new direction in Washington.
