DOJ Investigates Black Lives Matter Over Alleged Donor Fraud
After raking in $90 million post-George Floyd, BLM faces a federal probe into luxury spending, missing funds, and possible criminal misuse.

It turns out that the movement corporate America championed and celebrities threw cash at might not have been about justice after all. The Department of Justice is now reportedly investigating the Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation over allegations that the group defrauded donors and misused tens of millions in contributions.
Federal agents have issued multiple subpoenas and executed at least one search warrant as part of the ongoing criminal investigation into the national BLM organization and affiliated leftist groups. According to the Associated Press, the probe led by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Los Angeles began under President Biden.
Despite the national foundation claiming they are not the subject of a federal criminal investigation, the actions taken by law enforcement suggest otherwise.
“We remain committed to full transparency, accountability, and the responsible stewardship of resources,” the group insisted in a statement.
The Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation came into its windfall in 2020, after the overdose-related death of George Floyd, a career criminal with a violent history. The resulting wave of protests, riots, and corporate guilt resulted in the organization receiving a jaw-dropping $90 million in donations much of it from virtue-signaling corporations and celebrities desperate to appease the woke mob.
But what happened to the money?
Here’s what we know:
- Over $12 million went to luxury real estate in Los Angeles and Toronto including homes used by BLM leaders.
- Nearly $11 million was funneled to companies owned by Patrisse Cullors’ friends and family, including her brother, a graffiti artist, who raked in $1.6 million for so-called “professional security services.”
- Massive internal infighting within the BLM movement has erupted, particularly between the national foundation and BLM Grassroots, over missing funds and lack of accountability.
It’s a familiar story: a leftist organization whips up emotional outrage, reaps the financial rewards, and then turns around and spends donor dollars on lavish lifestyles. All while pretending to be champions of the oppressed.
Meanwhile, the true cost of the “racial justice” movement it helped ignite includes:
- Over $1 billion in damages from the 2020 riots
- Dozens of deaths during the unrest
- A sharp rise in violent crime in major cities after the push to “defund the police”
Despite no criminal charges being filed yet, the DOJ’s involvement suggests the walls may be closing in. And while it may be too late to recover the squandered donations, accountability may finally be coming for a movement that cashed in on chaos.
Whether this investigation will result in indictments or just another slap on the wrist for left-wing nonprofits remains to be seen. But one thing is certain: the donors many of whom believed they were supporting justice have every reason to feel betrayed.
