Biden Staffers Hit by Subpoenas Over Alleged Cover-Up of President’s Cognitive Decline

House Republicans escalate investigation into President Biden's fitness for office.

House Republicans have intensified their scrutiny of the Biden administration, issuing subpoenas to three White House staffers amid concerns about efforts to conceal President Joe Biden's cognitive decline. Oversight Chairman James Comer (R-KY) announced the subpoenas on Wednesday, targeting aides believed to have created a “protective bubble” around the president following his poor debate performance.

  • Key Staffers Subpoenaed: The subpoenaed staffers, Ashley Williams, Anthony Bernal, and Annie Tomasini, are alleged to have insulated Biden from situations that might reveal his declining cognitive health. A former staffer claimed that Biden relies heavily on these aides for reminders, even about people he should easily recognize.

  • White House Denials: The White House has denied any efforts to shield the president’s cognitive issues. Previously, the administration refused to make these staffers available for interviews regarding Biden’s handling of classified documents.

Comer’s statement highlighted the urgency of the investigation: “President Biden is clearly unfit for office, yet his staff are trying to hide the truth from the American people. Key White House staff must come before our committee so we can provide the transparency and accountability that Americans deserve.”

  • Hearing Schedule: Depositions are scheduled with Williams on July 23, Bernal on July 24, and Tomasini on July 25. The subpoenas note that these staffers likely have firsthand knowledge of the president’s capabilities, raising questions about his fitness to lead.

  • Potential Legislative Action: Comer’s inquiry might lead Congress to reconsider legislation under the Twenty-Fifth Amendment, which addresses the oversight of a president’s ability to serve.

House Republicans are also seeking testimony from White House physician Kevin O’Connor concerning Biden’s health, noting O’Connor’s ties to the Biden family. This move follows revelations of a neurologist specializing in Parkinson’s disease visiting the White House, though Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre denied that Biden received treatment for the disorder.

White House spokesman Ian Sams dismissed the GOP’s actions, accusing them of pursuing “crazy, discredited conspiracy theories.” This subpoena development adds to the corruption-focused impeachment investigation Republicans have been leading against President Biden.

As these proceedings unfold, the questions surrounding President Biden's cognitive health and the transparency of his administration are likely to remain at the forefront of political discourse.
