Biden Shoved Out of Primetime at His Own Convention

Democrats sideline the president as pressure mounts for him to drop out of the race.

In a stunning display of disrespect, President Joe Biden was pushed out of the primetime speaking slot at the Democratic National Convention on Monday night a convention that was initially intended to bolster his re-election campaign. The decision to sideline Biden, who won all the delegates during the primary but later succumbed to party pressure to drop out of the race, became the top story of the night, leaving many political observers in disbelief.

Biden’s speech, now relegated to the late-night hours, has been widely criticized as a significant slight against the sitting president. ABC News political analyst Jeff Greenfield predicted that this move would be viewed as “a major story of the first night and a serious slight to the President.”

Former CBS News White House correspondent Mark Knoller took to social media, remarking, “They took the nomination away from him and now booted him out of prime time.” TIME reporter Charlotte Alter echoed this sentiment, calling the decision “a huge mistake,” and suggesting that Biden should have been given a more prominent spot.

The outrage didn’t stop there. Political consultant Ron Fournier labeled the move as “malpractice,” while Democrat Christopher Hale described it as “unconscionable” for Biden’s speech to occur so late at night. Hale went further, suggesting that other speakers should be postponed to give Biden the time slot he deserves.

The frustration was palpable among Biden’s allies as well. A longtime aide to the president told Axios, “This is awful. He set up a campaign and handed it over to them—do they have to cut him out of prime time?”

The criticism also came from across the aisle. Senior Trump campaign official Tim Murtaugh noted, “The DNC is shoving the president of the United States into the overnight hours in a stunning display of disrespect.” Political strategist John Ashbrook added on X, “The Dem coverup of Biden’s dementia continues tonight. They’re pushing his speech past prime time in case he messes up.”

As the Democratic Party grapples with its internal conflicts, the sidelining of Biden at his convention is a clear sign of the turmoil within. The decision to push Biden out of the spotlight may well have lasting repercussions, not just for his legacy, but for the party’s future as well.
