Biden Removes Cuba From Terrorism List in Latest Move to Appease Dictators

Critics warn the decision rewards a brutal communist regime and endangers American security.

President Joe Biden has once again demonstrated his soft stance on dictatorships, this time by removing Cuba from the U.S. list of state sponsors of terrorism. The decision, announced on Tuesday, has sparked widespread condemnation from lawmakers and national security experts who say it rewards the island’s communist regime while endangering American interests.

Biden defended his move by claiming that Cuba had not supported international terrorism for at least six months and had provided "assurances" that it would not do so in the future. Given the regime’s long history of suppressing its own people, exporting violence, and allying with America’s enemies, critics were quick to point out the absurdity of such assurances.

Republican leaders wasted no time in condemning Biden’s decision, calling it yet another example of his administration’s weak foreign policy.

  • Rep. Michael McCaul (R-TX) slammed the move, arguing that it would only strengthen Cuba’s communist government, which has not only brutalized its own citizens but has also played a role in supporting global instability.

  • Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) likened Biden’s actions to those of Barack Obama, who similarly sought to normalize relations with Cuba. Cruz warned that this decision, like previous Democratic appeasements, undermines U.S. national security and signals to America’s adversaries that they can simply wait out Republican administrations before resuming their dangerous activities.

  • National security experts have pointed to Cuba’s close ties to Russia and China, highlighting the fact that the island has sent troops to assist Putin in Ukraine and is hosting a Chinese spy base hardly the actions of a regime that has abandoned terrorism.

The timing of this decision is particularly troubling. Cuba remains a key player in an international network of anti-American alliances, working alongside Venezuela, Iran, and North Korea to undermine U.S. influence. Removing Cuba from the terrorism list not only legitimizes its oppressive government but also allows it to gain access to international financial systems that could be used to fund further destabilization efforts.

This latest move is part of a broader pattern in Biden’s foreign policy one defined by appeasement, weakness, and a lack of accountability for America’s adversaries. Under his watch:

  • Iran has ramped up aggression in the Middle East, emboldened by Biden’s refusal to hold the regime accountable.

  • China continues its espionage efforts, including within Cuba, where it operates surveillance bases targeting the U.S.

  • Russia has expanded its military campaigns, confident that Biden will not take decisive action against its allies.

Biden’s decision is already being met with resistance from conservative lawmakers, who have vowed to reverse this reckless policy once President Trump returns to office. Sen. Cruz made it clear that the next administration would work swiftly to undo the damage and restore pressure on the Cuban regime.

The American people deserve a president who prioritizes national security over political pandering. This latest act of appeasement serves as yet another reminder of why the current administration must be replaced with leadership that puts America first.
