Biden Defends Autopen Use as Trump and GOP Investigate Presidential Signature Scandal

As House Republicans probe potential cover-up of Biden’s mental decline, the former president insists he was “making the decisions.”

Former President Joe Biden is now pushing back hard amid growing scrutiny over his White House’s alleged misuse of the autopen to carry out executive actions during what many now believe were his declining months in office.

In a public statement Wednesday, Biden dismissed the scandal now being investigated by the Trump administration and House Republicans as nothing more than a “distraction.”

“I made the decisions about the pardons, executive orders, legislation, and proclamations. Any suggestion that I didn’t is ridiculous and false,” Biden claimed.

But the White House can’t simply spin this one away.

President Donald Trump has formally ordered an investigation into whether Biden’s top aides used mechanical signatures to conceal his cognitive decline, asserting presidential authority on his behalf without legal or constitutional legitimacy.

“This conspiracy marks one of the most dangerous and concerning scandals in American history,” Trump wrote in a Wednesday memo. “The American public was purposefully shielded from discovering who wielded the executive power.”

Trump’s memo details the gravity of the issue:

  • A presidential signature activates the core powers of Article II, including appointing officials, issuing pardons, and enacting federal policies.

  • If a machine or more accurately, Biden’s staff operating a machine executed those actions without his awareness or approval, the very legality of thousands of decisions is in question.

The use of autopen is not inherently illegal. But as Attorney General Pam Bondi now investigates, the issue isn’t the pen it’s the deceit. If Biden lacked capacity and aides knowingly pushed policies under his name, it’s a direct assault on constitutional government.

Meanwhile, Biden is trying to change the subject, lashing out at Trump and House Republicans over unrelated legislative priorities.

“This is nothing more than a distraction... to pay for tax breaks for the ultra-wealthy and big corporations,” Biden said, attempting to dodge the core scandal.

But that won’t fly with the GOP.

House Oversight Chairman James Comer (R-KY) has already begun subpoenaing former Biden aides, and says he’s “open” to calling Biden himself to testify before Congress. At the center of the probe. Did Joe Biden have the mental and physical capacity to approve major presidential decisions in his final year?

Here’s what makes this different from past scandals:

  • According to the Heritage Foundation’s Oversight Project, Biden’s autopen was used on sensitive executive orders, last-minute pardons, and sweeping regulatory changes.

  • Among them: pardons for Dr. Fauci, General Milley, Hunter Biden, and members of the January 6 Committee.

  • Investigators say many of these actions occurred without Biden ever speaking publicly about them, raising suspicions that he may not have been involved at all.

The situation worsened after Biden’s recent admission that he is battling an aggressive form of prostate cancer a condition left undisclosed during his presidency, even as he stumbled through speeches and avoided press briefings.

“If his advisors secretly used the mechanical signature pen to conceal this incapacity,” Trump wrote, “that would constitute an unconstitutional wielding of the power of the Presidency.”

This scandal isn’t about signatures. It’s about who was really running the country.

If Biden wasn’t, and if unelected aides knowingly assumed the powers of the presidency, then Americans were lied to at the highest level and the rule of law was subverted for political convenience.

The investigation is just beginning. But one thing’s clear: the autopen may be the pen, but it’s the people behind it who may have committed one of the greatest acts of deception in American political history.
