Biden Reportedly Frustrated With Garland for Not Prosecuting Trump More
Complaints emerge over the attorney general’s handling of Trump and Hunter Biden investigations.
President Joe Biden is reportedly unhappy with Attorney General Merrick Garland over the Justice Department’s handling of investigations into President-elect Donald Trump. According to a Washington Post report, Biden has expressed regret about appointing Garland, criticizing the pace and approach taken toward prosecuting Trump.
In private, Biden reportedly complained that Garland’s Justice Department was too slow in pursuing Trump over alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 election and mishandling of classified documents. Biden also expressed frustration over the DOJ’s aggressiveness in investigating his son, Hunter Biden.
The decision to nominate Garland was heavily influenced by Biden’s then-chief of staff, Ron Klain, who argued that Garland’s reputation as a federal judge would present the DOJ as impartial. However, some Democrats now believe this choice backfired.
“Had the Justice Department moved faster to prosecute Trump the former president might have faced a politically damaging trial before the election,” the Post reported, citing Democratic insiders. Others have also pointed fingers at a Trump-appointed federal judge in Florida for delays, as well as the Supreme Court for siding with Trump on certain rulings.
Critics point out that Trump, as president, had the authority to declassify documents, an argument ignored by many of his detractors. Meanwhile, classified documents were also found in Biden’s garage, and as vice president under Obama, Biden did not possess declassification authority. Yet, Biden has faced no charges for this mishandling of sensitive information, adding fuel to accusations of hypocrisy.
The controversy highlights growing discontent within Biden’s own circles as they reflect on missed opportunities to weaken Trump politically. Democrats are reportedly lamenting that a more aggressive DOJ could have helped prevent Trump’s resurgence.
Adding to Biden’s woes is his decision to withdraw from the 2024 race after a poor debate performance exposed his declining health. His endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris as his replacement proved disastrous, with Harris losing every swing state in a landslide defeat.
These developments underscore the political missteps of Biden’s administration and the internal discord within the Democratic Party. From Garland’s DOJ decisions to Biden’s electoral blunders, the fallout continues to reverberate as Trump prepares to take office once again.
