Ben Carson Anticipates 'Most Consequential' Trump-Kamala Debate
Carson predicts Trump will stand firm while Harris tries to run from her record.
Dr. Ben Carson believes the upcoming presidential debate between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris will be “one of the most consequential” in history. Carson, former HUD Secretary under Trump, shared his thoughts on Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures,” where he laid out his high expectations for the debate scheduled for Tuesday evening on ABC.
“People will finally get a chance to hear from Kamala Harris what she believes,” Carson said. He questioned whether Harris’s past “flip-flops” were genuine shifts in her position or if her core values have remained consistent. “What kind of values are we talking about?” Carson asked, pointing to her record as district attorney in San Francisco, her opposition to deporting drug dealers, and her support for abortion up until birth.
Carson predicted that the debate would feature “Donald Trump running on his past policies and Kamala Harris running away from hers.” Harris’s flip-flops on key issues, including fracking, reparations, and Medicare for All, have left many voters wondering what her true positions are. According to Axios, Harris’s views or “current position is unknown” across several major areas, which will likely come under scrutiny during the debate.
“Kamala Harris is going to debate Kamala Harris,” Carson noted, emphasizing her inconsistency on core issues. One of the main topics expected to dominate the debate is health care, with Harris having previously supported Medicare for All, which would eliminate private insurance for over 100 million Americans. “This is the linchpin for socialism,” Carson warned, pointing to historical examples of how socialized medicine leads to government control over people’s lives.
Carson also reflected on his own debate experience, facing Trump during the 2016 Republican primary. He predicted that Harris will attempt to “get under Donald Trump’s skin,” while Trump will remain steady, speaking directly to the American people. “The truth is always the truth,” Carson said of Trump’s debate style. “You don’t have to try to figure out what things will resonate with people. You just say who you are.”
With polls showing a tight race and Harris’s convention bounce quickly fading, Carson concluded that this debate will be “widely watched” and a pivotal moment in the 2024 election cycle.
