LA mayor erupts after Border Patrol agents appear at Newsom’s press conference

Bass accuses federal agents of “provocative act” while DHS insists they were simply doing their job in crime-ridden Los Angeles.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass is fuming again. This time, her outrage is aimed at federal immigration agents who dared show up near California Governor Gavin Newsom’s press conference on Thursday.

Roughly 100 Border Patrol officers were seen gathering outside the Japanese American National Museum just as Newsom prepared to unveil California’s plan to counter Republican redistricting in Texas. The agents were reportedly staging for a law enforcement operation in the area, but Bass saw something far more sinister.

“There is no way this was a coincidence,” Bass said. “This was widely publicized… Why would you do that? That is unbelievably disrespectful. It’s a provocative act.”

What Bass conveniently left out is that the Department of Homeland Security runs 40 active patrol teams daily in Los Angeles a city increasingly overwhelmed by crime, homelessness, and illegal immigration. According to DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin, the agents were simply performing routine enforcement duties unrelated to Newsom’s event.

“Our law enforcement operations are about enforcing the law not about Gavin Newsom,” McLaughlin said.

But Bass didn’t let that stop her from doubling down.

“They’re talking about disorder in Los Angeles, and they are the source of the disorder right now,” she claimed. “This absolutely has to stop.”

Here’s the reality: Border Patrol didn’t bring disorder to LA. It was already there thanks to sanctuary city policies, unchecked illegal immigration, and decades of failed Democrat leadership.

Los Angeles has become a hotbed for human trafficking, fentanyl distribution, and cartel activity. Just last year, federal officials arrested over 1,200 illegal aliens involved in gang and trafficking operations in Southern California alone. Violent crime in LA rose over 25% in four years, with illegal immigrants disproportionately represented in arrests for carjackings, drug offenses, and homicides.

Instead of confronting those facts, Bass and Newsom are more concerned about optics. Newsom’s office even posted on X (formerly Twitter):

“BORDER PATROL HAS SHOWED UP AT OUR BIG BEAUTIFUL PRESS CONFERENCE! WE WILL NOT BE INTIMIDATED!”

Translation: they were upset that the real-world consequences of their open-border agenda showed up literally on their doorstep.

And let’s not ignore the timing. Newsom’s press conference had nothing to do with immigration. He was pushing a power grab disguised as a “special election” to redraw California’s congressional map an effort aimed at erasing what’s left of GOP representation in the state. Never mind that Trump earned nearly 40% of the vote in California in 2024, yet Republicans hold just 9 out of 52 congressional seats.

Bass calling law enforcement a "provocative act" says everything about how far the left has drifted from reality. In their world, Border Patrol is the villain, and the people breaking the law are victims.

Meanwhile, cities like Los Angeles are spiraling into lawlessness, while officials like Bass throw tantrums because federal agents are doing the job they refuse to do.

No, Mayor Bass, enforcing immigration law isn't “disorder.” It’s your job and since you’ve failed to do it, President Trump and his team are stepping in to clean up the mess.
