Barrasso Exposes Kamala Harris' Extreme Legislative Record

GOP criticizes Harris' liberal policies as she secures Democratic nomination.

Senate Republican Conference Chairman John Barrasso (R-WY) has brought attention to what he describes as Vice President Kamala Harris’ extreme record as she prepares to secure the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination following President Joe Biden’s exit from the race. Barrasso's remarks, made during a Tuesday press conference, underscore the GOP's concerns over Harris' policy positions and her impact on key issues.

“The Democrats have successfully benched their starting quarterback, Joe Biden, and have replaced him with someone equally incompetent – but much more liberal – to call the plays, as Vice President Kamala Harris has been leading the cheers for the party of high prices and open borders,” Barrasso began.

Key Points:

  • Radical Nominees: As Vice President, Harris has broken ties 17 times to confirm what Barrasso called "radical nominees," some of whom advocate for defunding the police.

  • Economic Policies: Harris cast the tie-breaking vote for a tax and spending bill that Barrasso claims led to the highest inflation in 40 years.

  • Border Crisis: Harris’ role as the border czar has coincided with what Barrasso described as an invasion of 10 million illegal immigrants.

Barrasso referenced a non-partisan ranking from a congressional tracking site, which identified Harris as the most left-wing member of the U.S. Senate, surpassing even Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT). Harris' support for progressive policies has been a focal point of GOP criticism.

“Harris is somebody that proposed eliminating private health insurance for Americans but yet she wants to pay for health care for illegal immigrants,” Barrasso noted. “In the Senate, she co-sponsored the Green New Deal and proposed eliminating fracking, which would drive energy prices even higher. She helped raise money for bail for criminals in our jails and has made it easier for illegal immigrants to stay here when they are criminals. The damage that she has done is cumulative. Prices are up 20% since she came into office. 10 million illegal immigrants. That’s why three out of four Americans say the country is headed in the wrong direction.”

Barrasso concluded that a vote for Harris was a vote for “more inflation, higher prices, and an open border.” He outlined the Republican agenda to counter Harris’ policies: “Republicans know what to do. It’s stop the wasteful Washington spending. It’s secure the border. It’s unleash American energy. That’s the way to get America back on track.”

As Harris moves to solidify her position as the Democratic nominee, these critiques from GOP leaders like Barrasso are likely to shape the upcoming election narrative, highlighting the stark contrasts between the two parties' visions for America's future.
