Australia Expels Iranian Diplomats Over Antisemitic Attacks

PM Albanese faces backlash after blaming Iran for synagogue, restaurant assaults while still backing Palestinian statehood.

Australia has expelled two Iranian diplomats following intelligence reports that the Islamic Republic orchestrated multiple antisemitic attacks on its soil, sparking international outrage and renewed questions about Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s loyalty to Western allies.

On Monday, Albanese revealed that Australia’s domestic spy agency, ASIO, had gathered "credible intelligence" linking Iran directly to attacks on a Jewish restaurant in Sydney and a synagogue in Melbourne. The Prime Minister declared that Tehran had “sought to disguise its involvement,” but Australian intelligence had unmasked the operation.

"Iran directed at least two of these attacks," Albanese said bluntly.

The two diplomats whose identities remain undisclosed were notified and expelled, while Australian diplomats stationed in Tehran were relocated to a third country for their safety.

This isn’t just about surveillance or espionage. This is about foreign-directed terrorism on Australian soil, aimed at Jewish communities, with a clear objective: spread fear, create chaos, and punish nations allied with Israel.

Yet here’s where it gets worse.

Despite this direct assault on Australia’s Jewish community, the Albanese government is still moving forward with plans to recognize a Palestinian state at the United Nations in September a move that has enraged Israel and raised eyebrows among national security experts.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu didn’t hold back, saying. "History will remember Albanese for what he is: A weak politician who betrayed Israel and abandoned Australia’s Jews."

He’s not wrong.

How can a government in good conscience declare Iran a threat to national security, expel its diplomats for coordinating antisemitic violence, and then double down on a UN vote that rewards the same axis of terror?

Make no mistake: Iran’s fingerprints are all over the October 7 Hamas massacre in Israel, and it continues to fund and train terror proxies across the Middle East. Australia’s move to recognize Palestinian statehood while acknowledging Iran’s attacks is not just tone-deaf it’s dangerous.

Let’s be clear:

  • ASIO confirmed Iran orchestrated attacks targeting Jews in Australia.

  • Australia expelled Iranian diplomats for antisemitic violence.

  • Meanwhile, Albanese is planning to support a UN vote that would legitimize the very forces Iran sponsors.

If this is what "diplomacy" looks like in 2025, the West is in serious trouble.

Australia’s Jewish community has every right to feel betrayed. Expelling diplomats is a first step but it’s meaningless if followed by appeasement on the world stage.

You cannot fight antisemitism at home while enabling the regimes that fund it abroad.
