AG Orders Death Penalty for Alleged Assassin of UnitedHealthcare CEO

In a move that underscores the stark contrast between real leadership and the lawlessness coddled by the radical Left, Attorney General Pam Bondi announced Tuesday that federal prosecutors will seek the death penalty for Luigi Mangione the man accused of assassinating UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in cold blood.

The Department of Justice stated the murder was politically motivated, calling it “an act of political violence.” Mangione, just 26 years old, was arrested in Altoona, Pennsylvania, days after he allegedly shot Thompson from behind outside a Hilton Hotel in Midtown Manhattan.

This wasn’t random. This was a calculated execution.

• Thompson was gunned down in public, with a masked assailant firing again after the CEO collapsed.

• DOJ officials revealed the suspect’s notebook contained references to targeting “the CEO at the annual parasitic bean-counter convention.”

• Mangione allegedly fled on a bicycle, disappeared into Central Park, and escaped the city on a Greyhound before being caught at a McDonald’s in Pennsylvania.

Upon his arrest, Mangione reportedly had a homemade 9mm firearm, a fake New Jersey ID, and a manifesto detailing his violent ideology. All evidence points to a meticulously planned political assassination.

Yet despite the brutality of the crime, Mangione has become a bizarre cult hero to the far-left fringe. Activists have flooded him with letters, photographs, and even raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for his legal defense. These aren’t just misguided sympathizers this is the same political faction that spent years cheering “defund the police,” decriminalizing violence, and tearing down the very structures that keep this country safe.

Attorney General Bondi didn’t mince words:

“Luigi Mangione’s murder of Brian Thompson an innocent man and father of two young children was a premeditated, cold-blooded assassination that shocked America. After careful consideration, I have directed federal prosecutors to seek the death penalty in this case as we carry out President Trump’s agenda to stop violent crime and Make America Safe Again.”

This is exactly the kind of decisive leadership America needs. While New York’s soft-on-crime system doesn’t allow the death penalty, the federal government is stepping in to ensure real justice is served. Under state law, Mangione would face life without parole at most meaning taxpayers would foot the bill for a lifetime of prison care. But under federal law, he could receive the punishment his crime deserves.

Let’s be clear This wasn’t just a murder. It was a direct attack on civil society, designed to send a political message through violence. And if the radical Left had its way, Mangione would be a free man.

As the Biden administration turns a blind eye to domestic extremism when it doesn’t fit their narrative, President Trump’s DOJ is taking a stand. Violent political actors no matter their ideology must be met with the full force of the law.
