Afghan National Accused in DC Shooting Entered US Under Biden Program

A shocking attack near the White House exposes yet another dangerous failure of Biden’s Afghanistan withdrawal.

Just blocks from the White House, two West Virginia National Guard members were gunned down in what investigators now believe may be an act of international terrorism. And once again, the common thread traces straight back to the Biden administration’s reckless policies.

The accused shooter, 29-year-old Rahmanullah Lakanwal, isn’t some unknown figure who slipped through the cracks. According to multiple intelligence sources, Lakanwal had direct ties to U.S. government entities including the CIA while working as part of a partner force in Kandahar. He entered the United States in September 2021 under “Operation Allies Welcome,” the rushed immigration pipeline created after Biden’s disastrous Afghanistan withdrawal.

Former Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe did not mince words. He confirmed Lakanwal’s past work with U.S. agencies but emphasized the real failure came from the Biden administration allowing him into the country in the first place:

“The individual and so many others should have never been allowed to come here. Our citizens and service members deserve far better than to endure the ongoing fallout from the Biden administration’s catastrophic failures.”

The fallout Ratcliffe warns about became terrifyingly real this week.

  • The FBI has taken control of the investigation, treating the shooting as a potential act of international terrorism.

  • Both Guardsmen remain in critical condition, according to officials.

  • The attack was targeted, with D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser confirming the shooter specifically approached and ambushed the service members.

In a national address Wednesday night, President Donald Trump spoke with characteristic strength and clarity, calling the shooting a “savage attack” and “an act of evil.” He described how one of the guardsmen was shot at point‑blank range in a planned ambush just steps from the White House.

“As President of the United States, I am determined to ensure that the animal who perpetrated this atrocity pays the steepest possible price,” Trump vowed.

This is the leadership Americans expect decisive, firm, and unwilling to look the other way when our own service members are targeted.

Biden’s abandonment of Afghanistan was more than an embarrassment it was a security crisis that continues to endanger Americans. Key facts often overlooked:

  • Over 76,000 Afghan nationals were rushed into the U.S. under Operation Allies Welcome, with many later found to have inadequate vetting or missing documentation.

  • A 2022 DHS Inspector General report warned that some evacuees posed potential security risks due to incomplete background checks.

  • Violent crime in D.C. surged over 25% last year, compounding the danger created by unvetted entrants and weakening leadership.

When you combine dangerous global instability with Biden’s refusal to enforce strong borders or rigorous vetting, the results aren’t unpredictable they’re inevitable.

The shooting near the White House is not just a tragic event. It is yet another reminder that national security begins at the White House, and right now Americans are paying the price for failed leadership.
