Abbott Mocks NYC Leftism With ‘100% Tariff’ Threat as Mamdani Vote Looms
Texas governor draws hard line against radical progressives fleeing failed cities like New York.

As New Yorkers flirt with electing radical leftist Zohran Mamdani as mayor, Texas Governor Greg Abbott isn’t just watching he’s firing a warning shot.
“After the polls close tomorrow night, I will impose a 100% tariff on anyone moving to Texas from NYC,” Abbott posted on X Monday night, just hours before Election Day.
Was it a joke? Maybe. Was it a message? Absolutely.
Abbott’s “tariff” line was more than just dry humor it was a clear cultural marker. The Texas governor is warning that his state will not be a safe haven for failed progressive experiments. He knows what’s coming: if Mamdani wins, it will trigger yet another blue-state exodus, with fed-up New Yorkers trying to flee the disaster they just voted for.
Abbott is saying what many Americans are thinking: Don’t bring your failed policies with you.
Mamdani, a self-described Democratic Socialist with ties to Islamist political causes, represents the farthest fringe of leftist politics even by New York standards. His platform? Open borders, police abolition, and economic redistribution a cocktail of chaos that threatens to make the Big Apple entirely unlivable.
And while New York spirals, Texas is holding the line.
Abbott has made it clear for years that Texas is not interested in importing blue-state decay:
He’s taken on leftist indoctrination in education, launching audits across the University of Texas system to root out radical agendas.
He bused over 16,000 illegal immigrants to sanctuary cities in 2022 alone, forcing progressives to confront the real-world impact of their open-border rhetoric.
He’s unapologetically pushed back against LGBTQ+ extremism in public education, calling for a return to fundamentals over ideology.
And now, with Mamdani potentially taking over New York, Abbott is drawing another line in the sand. His “100% tariff” remark may not be enforceable but it captures exactly what conservatives feel: enough is enough.
Red states like Texas, Florida, and Tennessee have become refuges from leftist lunacy, but even they have limits. The fear isn’t people fleeing blue states it’s them bringing their ballot-box bad habits with them.
If Mamdani wins, it will confirm what conservatives have warned for years: the Left is no longer interested in moderation it’s all-in on extremism. And while New York voters might choose that path, Texas will not.
Governor Abbott is making it clear if you vote for Marxist mayors and then try to run from the consequences, don’t expect a warm welcome in the Lone Star State.
