Biden Under Pressure: McCarthy Weighs Impeachment Over Document Requests

Published:

For President Joe Biden, challenges continue to mount. From soaring inflation to escalating gas prices, it’s clear the current administration is navigating troubled waters, even without considering the potential trials of a 2024 re-election bid.

But amongst the many challenges facing Biden, one stands out prominently: the increasing calls for impeachment. These have ranged from murmurs to resounding cries, but none have been as significant as that from the Speaker of the House, Kevin McCarthy.

In a recent conversation with Fox Business’s Larry Kudlow, McCarthy delved deeper into the reasons behind the calls for impeachment. He emphasized the importance of certain documents related to Hunter Biden’s alleged illicit business activities. According to McCarthy, these documents could shed light on financial gains potentially made by President Biden through his son’s dealings.

Setting a clear ultimatum, McCarthy noted, “The thing that holds up whether to do [an] impeachment inquiry: Provide us the documents we’re asking. If they provide us with the documents, there wouldn’t be a need for an impeachment inquiry. But if they withhold the documents… we will move forward with impeachment inquiry when we come back into session.” With Congress recessed for August, this potential move would be slated for September 5th.

While McCarthy adopts a measured approach, some members of his party seem eager to make the first move. Just this month, Rep. Greg Steube of Florida took a bold step, submitting four articles of impeachment against Biden. Other vocal proponents of impeachment include Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene, Lauren Boebert, Matt Rosendale, Jim Jordan, and Ralph Norman.

Yet, despite the collective call from these representatives, none possess the unique authority and influence that McCarthy, as the Speaker of the House, holds. His decision, based on the Biden administration’s response to the document requests, could set the tone for the next chapter in American politics.

With the September 5th “deadline” drawing closer, President Biden’s team is undoubtedly on high alert. Whatever the outcome, it’s evident that turbulent times lie ahead for the administration.
