Judge Thwarts Alvin Bragg’s Fishing Expedition Against Melania Trump

Published:

In what some would call a sound defense of privacy, a New York state judge recently put a stop to Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s attempts to pry open Melania Trump’s emails. State Supreme Court Judge Juan Merchan determined that Bragg’s subpoena was excessively sweeping, providing an obstacle to Bragg’s ongoing investigation.

The judicial blockage doesn’t stop there. The judge also halted a separate subpoena from Bragg intended to delve into communication between Trump Organization personnel and White House officials, over two years of former President Donald Trump’s travel itineraries, and exchanges between Rhona Graff, a former Trump executive assistant, and Keith Schiller, the ex-director of Oval Office operations.

Merchan deemed Bragg’s attempts to gain access to Melania Trump’s correspondence as excessively wide-ranging. He stated that complying with this request would generate “significantly more responsive records than necessary,” marking a clear blow to Bragg’s overly ambitious demands.

Bragg’s expansive investigation is part of his ongoing pursuit to convict Trump on charges of falsifying business records in 2016. As part of this effort, he also seeks a full, video-recorded deposition given by Trump in a federal lawsuit by former advice columnist E. Jean Carroll.

Merchan did not immediately reject the subpoena for the deposition, but he decided it was more appropriate for a federal judge to rule on this matter.

Meanwhile, the former first lady is continuing to lead a quiet, private life post-White House, according to close associates. Publicist R. Couri Hay, who knew Melania Trump before her time as first lady, portrayed her as a “strong independent woman.” Former Trump aide Kellyanne Conway added that Melania Trump remains the former president’s “most trusted and most transparent adviser.”

One could argue that these developments shine a light on an overreaching investigation, a scenario that, unfortunately, is not unfamiliar to many conservatives. Yet, despite the challenging circumstances, Melania Trump remains a figure of resilience, maintaining her privacy while demonstrating a steadfast commitment to her values. A lesson in fortitude, indeed.
