The High-Heeled Comeback: Sarah Huckabee Sanders Responds to Newsom’s Comment with Poise and Facts

Published:

The Republican Governor of Arkansas, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, delivered a striking retort on social media, directed at Gavin Newsom, the Democratic Governor of California, after Newsom suggested that Republicans should be “on their heels.”

Governor Newsom has seemingly taken an interest in calling out prominent Republican leaders such as Florida’s Governor Ron DeSantis and Huckabee Sanders, even as his state witnesses an ongoing citizen exodus.

During a recent weekend interview, Newsom confessed his unusual fascination with conservative media, even going as far as to say it contributed to the “mental health crisis” in California. He added, “My staff is quite literally trying to have interventions with me about it. They say I’m too obsessed with that. But I need to understand it.”

In the same conversation, Newsom bemoaned the presence of conservative media, arguing that it put Democrats on the defensive. He boldly stated, “The Republican party should be on their heels.”

Governor Huckabee Sanders responded to this assertion with aplomb. She proudly highlighted her state’s achievements on Twitter and noted that she’s leading Arkansas forward – in “heels,” no less.

In a tweet that featured a humorous clip, Governor Newsom’s remarks about the GOP were juxtaposed with a viral internet meme phrase: “You sure about that?” The video then transitioned to a shot of Huckabee Sanders striding confidently in high heels. It highlighted the fact that California has lost 500,000 residents in two years, as reported by the Los Angeles Times.

Furthermore, the video underscored Arkansas’s recent popularity as a relocation destination – ranking fifth in the country. Governor Sanders went on to celebrate her state’s record low unemployment rate and the financial benefits Arkansas citizens are enjoying thanks to lower taxes. The video ended with a triumphant note, “All that in heels.”

Governor Newsom remained silent on the video response. Meanwhile, Huckabee Sanders’ clever retort was showcased on Fox News and drew praise from Kellyanne Conway. Governor Sanders shared the segment clip and reiterated her commitment to lower taxes, quality education, and safer streets in Arkansas. All, of course, achieved “in heels.”

Reports suggest that California saw a record departure of 407,000 residents between July 2021 and July 2022. The San Francisco Bay Area alone lost roughly 34,000 residents from 2022 to 2023, according to KNTV in San Jose. These facts lend more weight to Governor Huckabee Sanders’ argument, making it clear that the GOP is not just standing its ground, but confidently moving forward – and doing so in heels.
