Remembering a Legend: Tim McCarver, Two-Time All-Star and Hall of Fame Broadcaster

Tim McCarver, one of baseball’s best players, passed away yesterday. The 81-year-old broadcaster, a two-time All-Star, was also a member of the Hall of Fame. McCarver played baseball for 60 years, including two World Series championships with the St. Louis Cardinals. He also had a successful and lengthy career as a sharp-witted television analyst.

Although still in high school, McCarver signed with the Cardinals and made his MLB debut in 1959. He was a fantastic batter at the plate. five seasons in a row with a 270 or higher. The power of Mc Carver to influence careers was what made him so unique. He helped shape Bob Gibson and Steve Carlton into the Hall of Fame pitchers they will be today by working closely with them.

Throughout his life, McCarver’s accomplishments received numerous awards. He was given the Ford C. Frick Award for broadcasting excellence in 2000. Throughout his career, he also earned six Emmy Awards. For his exemplary contribution to the Cardinals organization and its supporters, he was inducted into the Cardinals Hall of Fame in 2017.

Everyone who knew Tim McCarver will remember him as a man who committed his life to baseball and showed genuine passion for the game at all times. Those who knew him best will mourn him profoundly but most importantly will be everyone who liked watching him share stories on television that accurately reflected America’s passion for baseball. Tim, you can now unwind; you deserve it.
