In recent years, it seems like America has been on a steady decline. Our economy is struggling, our political system is in disarray, and now one of our most successful athletes has been arrested and convicted in a foreign country.
Kyle Busch, one of NASCAR’s top drivers, was recently arrested in Mexico on weapons charges. The incident occurred when he was traveling out of the country after being on vacation and forgot that his gun was in his bag. He accepted the penalties, apologized for his mistake, and returned to North Carolina.
The Mexico Prosecutor General’s Office charged him with carrying a firearm without a license and possession of cartridges for exclusive use by Armed Forces; he received 3.5 years imprisonment plus a fine equivalent to 20 thousand 748 pesos (200 units of measurement). There is no word yet if or how Busch will be required to serve any time in prison.
This arrest is just another example of America’s decline. Our once-great nation is now being represented by people who can’t even follow simple laws in other countries. What’s even more concerning is that this isn’t an isolated incident; there have been numerous reports of American athletes and celebrities getting into trouble while abroad.
It’s clear that something needs to change. We need to start setting a better example for the rest of the world. We need to start holding our citizens accountable for their actions. And we need to start working towards rebuilding our once-great nation.
