Former Pakistani president Pervez Musharraf passes away in Dubai.

Published:

In recent news, former Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf passed away in Dubai at the age of 79. Musharraf was a controversial leader, and his death prompted mixed reactions from people all over the world.

Musharraf took power in 1999 in a coup against then-Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. He remained in power until 2008, during which time he was an ally to the United States following 9/11. However, his term was marred with controversy due to human rights abuses and oppression, as well as two failed assassination attempts against him. In 2019, he was sentenced to death for high treason but this ruling was overturned later that year before he went into self-imposed exile in Dubai in 2016.

Now that Musharraf is gone, many are left wondering what his legacy will be. Was he a hero or a villain? A patriot or a traitor? Only time will tell. But one thing is for sure: Musharraf was a complex and controversial figure, and his death will leave a lasting mark on Pakistan and the world.
