The Democratic Party is at it again, trying to distract Americans from the disastrous legacy of their policies by pushing an extreme and deeply unpopular agenda. In a speech at a Democratic National Committee event on Tuesday, President Joe Biden promised to sign a bill legalizing abortion through all nine months of pregnancy. But polls have shown that only seventeen percent of Americans support such an extreme position, making this promise one that will alienate many voters.
This move is not only unpopular but also out of touch with voter concerns. While Democrats are attempting to push their pro-abortion agenda onto all fifty states, recent polls suggest that independents and women are swinging towards the GOP due to issues like inflation, immigration crisis and crime. The New York Times even admitted that these issues were more important than abortion rights when it comes to voting in midterm elections.
It can be argued that this move by the Democrats shows how little they actually care about voters’ opinions and feelings on sensitive topics such as abortion. By focusing on something so divisive and unpopular, they are alienating a large portion of their own base who may feel uncomfortable supporting such extreme measures. Instead of discussing real solutions to issues such as healthcare, job security and wages, they choose instead to double down on something so controversial in order to divert attention away from the failed policies of their party.
Furthermore, this pro-abortion stance does nothing but further polarize politics in the United States along ideological lines. It makes for an environment where meaningful dialogue and compromise becomes impossible due to how contentious it is among different groups of people. This “us vs them” tribal mentality has been detrimental for years and now it seems the Democrats are wanting to take it even further with this dangerous decision.
It’s time for Americans across party lines to stand together against this kind of divisive tactics from political parties trying desperately cling onto power while getting richer in the process. We must reject any attempt by either side of the aisle to distract us from real issues affecting everyday citizens in favor of ideological posturing that serves no purpose other than further dividing us along preconceived notions about what is right or wrong.
